A Foreign English Teacher
Our school, Shiyan Middle School in Fuling, was founded only four years ago. It is rather a new school, but now it is getting well-known for its teahing. We have a foreign English teacher, named Hans Barthel. He is the only foreign English teacher in all the schools in our city.
Hans is a tall man with blue eyes. He comes from Munich , in Germany. That is to say, German is his native language and yet he masters several foreign languages, including English. He teaches us spoken English. I still remember the first time he asked me to answer a very easy question, but I was too nervous to answer it, standing dumbfounded. He smiled, encouraged me and let me sit down. From then on, I made up my mind to study English harder.
One evening I plucked up my courage to visit Hans. When I rang the doorbell, he came out and let me in. At first I was a bit nervous when talking with him. To make me feel easy he spoke very slowly, and I could understand quite well. I was so glad that I felt quite at home. Now, I always go to his room on Saturdays. We talk a lot and watch TV together. With his help, my spoken English greatly improved.
Hans is learning Chinese all by himself. He can speak some Chinese now. He can talk with our Chinese teachers. If he doesn＇t know how to say a certain thing in Chinese, he will ask us to teach him till he can say it correctly.
On Christmas I sent him a gift, which he accepted. He spent that evening merrily with us Chinese students and didn＇t feel lonely at all.
This is Hans, a kind man and a good English teacher.

In my childhood, summer holidays left a deep impression on me. They brought me many happy memories now.
Everyday we got up early then. Though there was not much modern entertainment, we could still be content with climbing trees, swimming in the small river, catching butterflies , bees and or something. Anyway, we could give a full play to our imagination and intelligence to enjoy ourselves.
The most enjoyable time in a day was night. All people would go out to be cool. They talked with each other freely and happily. Sometimes we would gather around an old grandfather and listen to an old story, which would always attract a lot of children. Our grief and joy all came from story. Sometimes we would carry out a small stool, made it as a horse, and then we would ride on it in a circle. We acted as knights. The front part of the stool was moved up and down to knock at the earth and sent out the sound of “du du…”. It was often followed with our folk songs. But parents could not accept this game because it was too noisy, and they couldn’t bear it. We were always forced to dismiss. But soon we could find a new program.
About the midnight, people would go back to sleep one after another. Under the pressure of parents, we had to go home, too. But as soon as we got to bed, the plan of entertainment next day appeared in mind. Then we could sleep with a smile.

twins are supposed to be alike, are they not? well, the twin sisters, lanlan and miaomiao do look alike. some of the time when they are both dressed up, which is not often, or when they go to the beach, which is not really often either, people recognize the likeness of their features. however, they like very different styles of clothes. lanlan prefer informal clothes, but miaomiao dresses like a model, always wearing the latest fashions.
They have very similar temperaments in most ways. lanlan does not get angry easily, enjoys being around people of her own age, finds young children a little irritating, and would rather spend time at a party than in a library. in these respects miaomiao feels the same. but miaomiao likes loud music and modern dances, while lanlan finds that nightclubs give her a headache. miaomiao is always with friends, and is a favorite with all the teachers, whereas lanlan prefers to be alone at times, and does not really try to impress her teachers.
They have tried to live in the same room several times, and even agreed on the color they liked best and the kind of furniture they wanted. but lanlan likes to keep things neat and tidy, while miaomiao acts as if there were a servant around to pick up all the things that get thrown on the floor or over the edge of the chair or into the bathtub. lanlan likes to go to bed early and get up early. in contrast miaomiao does not seem to have any definite habits, often goes to bed very late, and then wants to sleep late the next day when lanlan wants to get the day started.

The Family Plan has been adopted for several years, most of the young generation are only child because their parents follow the government’s policy. Over more than 30years, most family are made up of grandparents, parents and a child.
Here comes the problem, the society is facing an aging situation, more and more people are getting old while the young people are less.
For a typical family, four grow-ups are at the age of over 40 with a young kid less than 20years old. The aging society is getting more and more obvious, such phenomenon has been catch mass media’s attention.
The policy of one child has been doubted, it has been strongly advised that a family is allowed to raise two kids. I totally agree with that, it not only bring happiness to family, but also relieve the pressure of aging problem.
